Send your truss to a classmate, a teacher, or yourself on another computer
Last updated 2026-09-19
There are two ways to share a truss: as a file or as text. Both are in the Share panel: click on the right side of the screen.
Download .truzme file → Open file…
One
.truzmefile that carries everything: the truss, display settings and background images.
Send the file like any other: email, chat, a shared drive. The other person opens it with Open file… in Truzme. More in Files.
Sending the file to yourself works too. On a school computer, it's the safest way to keep your work, because many of them wipe everything at sign-out. Why
Copy as text → paste
Quick: paste it anywhere text goes, like a chat, an email, an assignment or an AI chat. Only the truss, without display settings or background images.
The other person clicks the canvas in Truzme, presses Ctrl+V, then Enter. Or pastes it into the Project code panel and clicks Apply. They see the truss with their own display settings.
You can also copy straight from the canvas: select the truss (Ctrl+A selects everything) and press Ctrl+C. That copy only takes the materials and sections the copied members use. Copy as text takes all of them.
The text is Project code. More on pasting: Copy, paste & duplicate.
* Email apps and assignment editors sometimes change pasted text: they add line breaks, turn quotes into curly
quotes, or cut off long messages. If pasting it back gives "This Project code can't be pasted",
send a .truzme file instead.
** Text opens with the other person's own settings: their units, which labels are on or off in the Display menu, and so on.
Use a file when you want the other person to see exactly what you see. Use text when you only need the truss, or when it's quicker to paste than to send a file.
Tell me how you'd like to share your truss, and what for. Let me know
A teacher can give every student the same starting truss through whatever Learning Management System the class already uses (Canvas, Moodle, Google Classroom, …).
Attach a .truzme file. It keeps your display settings and background images, e.g. a photo of a bridge to
trace. Students download it and open it with Open file…
Paste it as text. Students get the truss in their own display settings.
Teacher: build the starting truss, click Copy as text in the Share panel, and paste the text into the assignment.
Student: copy the text from the assignment, click the canvas in Truzme, press Ctrl+V, then Enter.
If the pasted text doesn't work, attach a .truzme file instead.
